Either way, welcome. If you’re a little nervous about what actually happens at one of these appointments, this post is for you.
We get it. Walking into a new salon, not knowing what to expect, is a lot. So let’s break it all down — from booking to walking out the door feeling like yourself, but better.

1. Booking Your Appointment
First things first — booking is super easy. Simply head to our website (link in bio, always), pick a date and time that works for you, and that’s it. No phone tag, no back-and-forth emails.
2. Arriving at Assort NY
Once you get here, you’ll immediately notice that it doesn’t feel like a typical salon. The space is thoughtfully set up to feel calm, comfortable, and welcoming – and that’s completely intentional.
The moment you walk in, someone will greet you. You won’t be standing awkwardly by the door wondering what to do — we’ve got you. From there, you’ll be shown in, introduced to the space, and invited to get comfortable before anything else happens.
You’ll spot a clothing rack to hang your things and a cozy seating area to settle into — because we want you fully relaxed before we even touch your hair.
3. The Consultation
This is the heart of the experience — and honestly, most people are surprised by how much they enjoy it.
Before we pick up a single pair of scissors, we talk. Your stylist will sit down with you, hear where your hair has been and where you want it to go, and share their honest recommendations. Bring your inspo photos, bring your hair baggage, or just say ‘I have no idea — help.’ We’re good with all of it.
4. How Long Will You Be Here?
This really depends on what you’re coming in for. For a cut and style, plan for about an hour to an hour and a half. If you’re adding color, block out more time — anywhere from 2 to 3+ hours depending on the service and your hair.
When you book, we’ll give you a realistic time estimate based on what you’re going for. No surprises, no rushing. We’d rather give you a heads-up in advance than have you stressing about getting somewhere after.
5. What to Bring
Here’s your quick checklist so you can show up totally prepared:
➖ Come with your hair in its natural, everyday state — no need to blow it out or style it specially
➖ Bring inspo photos saved on your phone (Pinterest, Instagram, screenshots — all good)
➖ Know roughly when your last color or chemical treatment was, if applicable
➖ Wear a top that feels comfortable for you — we’ll have a cape for you
